Renowned pop musician Benee has returned with a brand-new, high-energy hit called “Green Honda.” With its cutting words and careless “I don’t give a f*ck, I’m over you” sound, the song perfectly encapsulates everything you wish you had said to your ex. Benee, which was formed by Elvira Anderfjard and Luka Kloser, is an all-female collaboration that seamlessly experiments with different genre-blending soundscapes while still producing incredibly relevant music. Benee quickly establishes the mood with her sharp lyrics and upbeat orchestration in “Green Honda.”
Humming bass lines and buzzing guitars laced with electronic synths cover the song in a layer of futuristic nostalgia as she says from the outset, “You were a waste of fucking time,” before sucker punching with, “I pull up in my green Honda to tell ya that I don’t want ya!” “Writing in the studio with two other young women was such a refreshing experience,” the artist, who was born in New Zealand, remarks. When working with your actual peers, there are a lot of things that you just don’t need to explain. It is sense-based. It’s incredible how they just get it.” “At initially, ‘Green Honda’ was a rather jovial song, with certain sections flowing naturally… “I wanted the song’s energy to convey the idea I had of writing a song about being fearless, knowing where you are and what you need to say,” continues BENEE. “The Green Honda narrative has a personal backstory. My grandma gave me my first automobile, a green Honda, after she stopped driving. He’s on the cover of my EP, STELLA & STEVE, and I nickname him Steve. Together, we have had many adventures.” Directed by Eliot Charof & AA, the accompanying music video is a high-octane work of art with green-lit, fast-paced imagery.
“Green Honda,” the first new song by Benee ahead of a wider body of work that is expected out later this year, was featured on New Music Daily on Apple Music. Following the release of her highly regarded 2022 Lychee EP, Benee has taken off, amassing tens of millions of streams via a string of beloved joint ventures, such as “Uh Oh” featuring Sub Urban, “Ott” featuring easy life, “I’m So Happy” featuring Jeremy Zucker, “fun out of it” featuring Johnny Orlando, and, most recently, “Lots of Nothing” featuring Spacey Jane.
