Open Book If Kalie Shorr wanted to, she could easily become a pop sensation. She is just as adept at connecting with a fan base, understanding the dynamics of hooks, and providing pure sugarcoated fun as the best. However, she’s too damn honest and too damn rural for that kind of game. On the opening track of Open Book, “Too Much To Say,” she sings, “I’ve never been worse, thanks for asking.” This song is an answer to every “how are you” question that never really expected an answer or wanted to hear it if it did. However, you should listen to Shorr, who sings so plainly about suffering, drug abuse, loss, and sex that you never feel pressured to shoulder her emotional burdens. You’re only welcome to bring yours along as well. This kind of fire is what country music needs.
