Spanish-based producer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Sam George, performing under the name Pick Up Goliath, returns with La Sombra, the emotionally charged third single from his forthcoming concept EP Salt & Static.

Exploring themes of grief, unresolved loss, and emotional paralysis, La Sombra offers a deeply personal reflection on bereavement and the lingering shadows left behind by those we lose. The title, Spanish for “The Shadow,” symbolizes the enduring presence of memory—both comforting and haunting—as listeners are guided through a landscape of conflicting emotions and difficult healing. the track blends cinematic modern metalcore, synthwave textures, and subtle Spanish harmonic influences. Moving between moments of fragility, atmosphere, anger, and explosive intensity, the song mirrors the unpredictable nature of grief itself. La Sombra follows the acclaimed singles Hope is a Hell of a Drug and Black Sugar, both of which received significant critical praise and hundreds of playlist additions for their emotional honesty and conceptual depth. Together, the releases form part of Salt & Static, a six-track project examining men’s mental health through lived experience rather than conventional narratives.
George is no stranger to ambitious creative work. Previous projects include the award-winning Cult of the Lamb: Hymns of the Unholy, featuring notable collaborators including Howard Jones, Matthew K. Heafy, and Scott LePage, as well as Artificial Ascendency, a four-part conceptual metal release structured like a classical composition. All music for Salt & Static is written, recorded, performed, produced, and mixed entirely by George at Mammoth Sound Studio in Cáceres, Spain, a Dolby Atmos-certified facility where he also works with artists across the rock, metal, and alternative music worlds. With La Sombra, Pick Up Goliath continues to prove that heavy music can be both sonically devastating and emotionally meaningful, delivering one of his most personal and impactful releases to date.
