Few musicians have me as thrilled for 2024 as Spain’s very own Bb Trickz do as 2023 slowly draws to an end. The young performer was enthralling our ears and eyes earlier this month with songs like “VIVA ESPAÑA” and “Charlie Brown” when we last saw her. The most ugly person in Spain has made a comeback with her first project since Trickstar debuted last spring, Sadtrickz, not even a few weeks after it first dropped. Sadtrickz, in contrast to a lot of the music that came before it, is a rare example of Bb Trickz’s sensitivity as she swaps away boastful lyrics about her accomplishments for lyrics about sexual tension, loneliness, and lost love.
Bb Trickz shows fans a side of the emerging artist that is both unexpected and relatable with songs like the EP opener “Paso,” which romanticizes the past and muses on a changed relationship. With the release of Sadtrickz, Bb Trickz’s emotional register expands along with her creative variety. Cash Cobain produced the EP, which features samples from Lil Peep’s classic 2015 song “The Way I See Things” and Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away. Bb tricks simply oozes originality and diversity with each new song, making her one of the most interesting musicians working today, if not the most. If nothing else, Sadtrickz demonstrates once more how inevitable Bb trickz are. Bb Trickz has almost unmatched charm and skill, and he shines at every step, whether he’s rhyming triumphantly over a Gangnam Style sample or brooding over love on a melancholic instrumental. It won’t be long before she becomes well-known, even though her artistic journey began long before “Bambi” went popular on TikTok (her work on Minimúsica: Els Aliments may have been the catalyst for this more than ten years ago).
