The origins of The Elusives go back to the mid-1990s, when multi-instrumentalist Paul Gilligan and vocalist and drummer Joe Brady first started to write music together. Once their personal lives and various musical ventures had taken them in different directions, the two of them got back together in 2014 and kept developing their ideas through from time to time performing live and by sharing low-fi home recordings with a close online community. The inclusion of vocalist Laura Hand in 2025 introduced a new element to the project, with her providing atmospheric lead vocals which match well with Gilligan’s guitars and synths and Brady’s strong rhythms and vocals. This combination offers the group with a wider creative base as they proceed into this new phase. Since they have already drawn in audiences with fully sold-out performances at well-known Dublin venues, they are now in a position to transform years of gradual development into a more public presentation.
“Run Away Into the Night” is not just their first single; it is in fact the first step opening up a project which has taken years to reach its complete form. The band’s focus on atmosphere, its use of layered arrangements, and its lack of adherence to genre boundaries means that their introduction is based on their group identity rather than following a standard pattern. There is also a feeling of anticipation associated with the release: The Elusives have been working on their sound for a long time and are now ready to let people outside their current circle hear it. Since their debut album is coming soon, this single marks a new stage in the group’s journey while at the same time keeping the elusive character that has so far defined them. As the band says, “It’s all about to happen!”
