Odelet’s new album ‘Raindance’ is the musical equivalent of raindrops meeting sunlight: gentle, but with a charged, emotional intensity. Opening track “Know It All” immediately establishes a groove that’s easy, but with a hypnotic and quietly confident energy. “Dirge” slows things down with a moodier, almost sultry tone, while “Be Still” is minimal but stirring, her voice floating weightlessly over the warm, analog undercurrents. The title track “Raindance” is where things start to shift. It has an anthemic quality, with layers of sound moving together like water over a stone surface: soft but relentless. This is followed by “Jezebel”, with a slinky beat and quietly commanding storytelling that balances the feminine and the vulnerable with a rock n roll edge.

“Bayou” transports you to a swampy cinematic dreamscape with atmosphere and a slow, sure pulse. “Think It Over” is a more reflective track that lingers with you. “Up Up and Away” is an ethereal high point with its sunny melodies and airy arrangement, giving a burst of light in the album’s middle. “Wake Up Call” ratchets up the tension once more with an urgent beat and an anthemic quality in both the rhythm and the vocal that suggest a call for change. Closing track “Sands of Time” is a gorgeous fadeout that wraps the album in a dreamlike haze, leaving you in a space of quiet contemplation.
‘Raindance’ is an impressive feat not only in terms of songwriting, but in its construction. Every sound is crafted with intent. Mixed in entirely in analog by Larry Crane, the warmth that comes through on ‘Raindance’ is palpable. The personal touch comes in knowing that Odelet plays nearly all of the instruments herself, lending a touch of intimacy to the music that belies the scope of the emotions she’s able to convey. Paired with a companion “Dub” remix release, ‘Raindance’ shows Odelet not only making songs, but building entire worlds to explore.
